“I can do this, I got this..I’m proud of you,”
is what I tell myself as I nervously get into position at the starting line. I look ahead, to what appears to be my inner child standing at the finish line. Before I am able to process what I’ve just seen, she blows the whistle…I take off.
My pace finds harmony within my breath. My heartbeat sets the tempo for each step. I am enjoying this energy and the will in between each motion. The background cheering is now brought to the forefront, and now my focus is interrupted with the wonder of who the audience is rooting for, yet I don’t see anyone in my peripheral.
As I reach the finish line, I look behind only to find no one there. I search the onlookers for familiar eyes, I cry out when I recognize each face to be a younger version of mine, throughout my many stages in life.
I point to them and shout, “We did it!!” The crowd roars, I laugh as I scoop up my inner child into my arms. I kiss her and express how beautiful she is.
I smile as I realize that training for this race was never about competing others for the prize,
rather the conquering of me.

Wow, I love your story and the images they evoke. I am such a competitive person and hate being beaten. I have truly never thought about the fact that in my race, the one He has set before me, is my own. It belongs to no other. No one but me is running it nor will anyone buy myself receive the reward He has prepared for me at it’s finish. It is between He and myself and I will cry out “We did it.” So often as Believers we strive with each other not realizing that as we run the race, and we strive to finish well there are fellow racers but they don’t race against us but with us. Love, Love, Love the thoughts you have given me to ponder over. Blessings to you!

Thank you! I recall times that I’ve looked to people on the side of me with envy instead of trusting that I was exactly where I needed to be for the moment. The race definitely symbolized focusing on becoming a better me…the faces in the crowd resembled my past to remind me that I’ve come a long way…thank you again. Healing & Blessings
