If you ask me abruptly
Why write poetry
Why not do
Something useful
Then I won’t know
How to answer you
I am like a goldsmith hammering day and night
Just so I can extend pain
Into a gold ornament as thin as a cicada’s wing
I don’t know if working so hard
To transform sorrows into
Shimmering words and phrases
Is also
Beautifully worthwhile.

Not too long ago I visited Idle Time Books in Adams Morgan, Washington DC. There I found this awesome book Where Books Fall Open by Bascove. In it you’ll find a beautiful collection of poems (such as Poetry’s Value), prose and pictures dedicated to the devoted reader and writer. Below is one of the pictures I took during my visit.

Lovely poem. Words give us so much of our ancient history. Most history, apart from in sculpture on stone, comes through in poetry. Without it, I would be lost. Thanks for the visit and the link back to me. The photograph you took is fabulous!
